RAPID RAIL ROLLS OUT FIRST ‘MARRIED’ 4-CAR TRAIN SET KUALA LUMPUR, 29 December -- In another landmark achievement in Malaysia’s urban rail, Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd – a subsidiary of Prasarana Malaysia Berhad (Prasarana) – has rolled out its first newly ‘married’ four-car train set, which was assembled from its previous two-car sets under the company’s Mid-Life Refurbishment (MLR) Project. After completing 2,000 kilometres of testing and commissioning for service and boosting additional new features, the vibrant new formed four-car train was put into service - a few hours after the final pre-operation run with Rapid Rail Chief Executive Officer, Dato’ Ir. Zohari Sulaiman and key members of the project team from Prasarana Integrated Management and Engineering Services (PRIME). “Today is indeed an historic day for Rapid Rail, PRIME and Prasarana. This is again part of our continual efforts to transform the urban rail services in Malaysia. With additional capacity, the ‘new’ four-car trains will ensure more comfort and less waiting time for passengers. “Passengers will have a more pleasant journey with the new and enhanced features of the ‘new’ trains. Apart from vibrant new signage, the additional new features include dynamic route map display to indicate direction of travel, previous and arrival station, and next station information. “The ‘new’ trains will also feature an enhanced rail lubricator system to reduce noise between rail and wheel interface, new LED lighting as well as the Passenger Information System (PIS) for infotainment, four units of CCTV and a designated wheelchair area for the OKU in each car,” Zohari said. According to Zohari, the project involves the refurbishment, rectification, upgrading works, coupling of 34 sets of 2-car train to form 17 sets of 4-car train and upgrading of the wayside systems. “Basically, what we did is that we cut off the front ends of two 2-car sets; and marry them together, to transform them into a four-car set with added new features. These 2-car sets are inherited by Rapid Rail when Prasarana took over PUTRA LRT. So, these 2-car sets have been operational since 1998 and due for mid-life refurbishment. He said that next ‘married’ four-car trains will be delivered in stages between 2018 and 2020. “By the year 2020, Rapid KL LRT Kelana Jaya Line will be fully serviced by all four-car trains – 17 sets of ‘married’ four-car sets, 35 sets of existing 4-car sets, 14 sets of new KLAV 4-car trains. No more traveling on the two-car trains,” he said, adding that with these numbers, Rapid KL Kelana Jaya Line will be able to meet the requirement of providing services with a two-minute frequency. Waiting time would also be reduced as a 4-car train set is able to ferry up to 976 passengers at one time; hence, making 4-car train sets more desirable for the passengers as compared to travelling in a 2-car train set. The MLR Project is contracted to Bombardier Hartasuma Consortium (BHC) and managed by PRIME. Testing and Commissioning is carried out by BHC with participation from PRIME, Rapid Rail and Consulting Engineer with close supervision by SPAD. ENDS

PRASARANA WINS ESQR AWARD FOR SECOND CONSECUTIVE YEAR KUALA LUMPUR, 11 December – For a second consecutive year, Prasarana Malaysia Berhad (Prasarana) has been honoured by the distinguished European Society for Quality Research (ESQR) for excellence in providing public transport services, which included the haj metro service in Saudi Arabia. Prasarana, which primarily manages the urban rail and stage bus services in Malaysia, was accorded by the Lausanne-based organization its prestigious International Diamond Prize for Excellence in Quality 2017; underlining the Group‟s commendable performance for 2017 in its continuous effort to transform the country‟s public transport services. Held on Saturday (9 December) in Vienna at the Parkhotel Schönbrunn, which was formerly the Palace for the Emperor‟s guests, Prasarana was represented by its Chairman, Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar, who received the award from ESQR Senior Advisor, Michael Harris. A total of 54 companies, public administrations and organizations representing different sectors from Europe, Asia, the Americas, Africa and Australia were accorded various awards at the Convention, which is held annually in giving recognition for excellence in services and leadership in their respective sectors. In his comments upon receiving the award, Tan Sri Khalid paid tribute to the 10,000-strong staff of the Group and its subsidiaries; and that Prasarana was humbled to be accorded with the prestigious award for the second year. “The year 2017 has indeed been a glorious year for Prasarana and its subsidiaries especially with the increased expectations from our customers and stakeholders – both domestically and internationally. “Recently, we won the main award at the Malaysia HR Awards 2017 and named as the “Employer of Choice‟ by the Malaysian Institute of Human Resource Management (MIHRM). Prior to that in August, Prasarana was honoured at the Asia Human Resources Development Awards for our contribution to the community. “At the Malaysian Social Media Week in Kuala Lumpur in November, Rapid KL was the recipient of the Social Media Excellence Award for Logistics and Transportation Sector at its awards ceremony. We are truly humbled to receive these recognitions. Naturally, we will not rest on our laurels and will instead strive harder as we continually increase our benchmark to be among the best in the world. “2018 is just around the corner and we will face new challenges. Prasarana and its subsidiaries will be ready to take on these challenges. The ESQR award is testament that we are on the right track in driving the transformation of Malaysia‟s public transport services and providing services with excellence to our customers,” said Tan Sri Khalid, who was appointed as Prasarana Chairman last September. The awards and recognitions, he said, would help spur the spirit and determination of Prasarana‟s staff to make 2018 an even more successful year for Prasarana especially in elevating further the quality of its exemplary services. “The customers' expectation will continue to increase despite the high scores that we made this year. That‟s a fact of life. And, there‟s always room for further improvement in everything we do. That's also a fact of life,” added Tan Sri Khalid.

Rapid KL Special Bus Shuttle Service to MotoGP in Sepang KUALA LUMPUR, 23 October – For the fourth consecutive year, Rapid KL will be providing the special shuttle service from the city and KLIA for fans to enjoy the Shell Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix, which will be held in Sepang from October 27 to 29. Ensuring convenience for the fans, the bus tickets are already on sale at key LRT stations for the service, which will commence from Friday (27 October) to Sunday on October 29. “Fans can already purchase the tickets at KLCC, Masjid Jamek and KL Sentral LRT stations so that fans can conveniently board the bus and head for Sepang. They can also be purchased at KLIA2 Transportation Hub at Level 1. We all know that tickets for the race had been selling like hot cakes and we expect many of them will be taking our services. “Based on the last few years, Rapid KL bus services as the Official Public Transporter for the Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix have been hugely popular. Hence, it is good to get the bus tickets now rather than during the event and needing to queue,” Rapid Bus Chief Executive Officer, Encik Mohd Azam Omar said in a statement today. The MotoGP shuttle bus will serve express service between KLCC and KL Sentral in the city and SIC; and between KLIA2 and the circuit. These locations are selected as they provide the best convenience travel for fans. While KLCC is easily accessible to city folks with its connectivity with Rapid KL’s LRT Kelana Jaya Line and the Go KL bus hub, KL Sentral is the national public transport hub which is connected to the ERL and KLIA Ekspres services, KTM Komuter and the ETS, KL Monorail services as well as Rapid KL’s LRT Kelana Jaya Line. Ticket prices for travel between KL Sentral and KLCC, and SIC are RM20 per trip and RM38 for return trips. The choice of KLIA2 is to support fans coming on domestic and international flights on the low-cost carrier. Bus ticket price is RM12 per trip. “From October 27 and for throughout the three event days, the bus tickets can only be purchased at the departure points at KL Sentral, KLCC and KLIA2,” he said, adding that the departure point for KL Sentral is at Level 1 near the ERL Arrival Hall; and at the Go KL bus stop at Jalan Ampang. For KLIA2, the departure point will be at Bay 87, the Bus Hub at Level 1 of the low-cost carrier airport terminal. For buses from the city, bus frequency will be about 30 minutes; with the first bus leaving from the city to SIC at 8am and ending at 12 noon. The first bus from KLIA2 will be from 8am as well and ending at 12 noon for all three days. For the return trips, the first bus will be leaving the circuit at 4pm; with the last bus scheduled at 7pm for all three days. “My advice, however, is for fans to go early to the circuit. There is the Mega MotoGP Carnival where there will be plenty of fun activities, shopping and excitement for fans to enjoy apart from the world class races. There’s also the Asia Talent Cup where local hero Azroy Anuar has the opportunity to become Malaysia’s first overall champion in this prestigious series,” Azam added. Apart from the three-day Mega MotoGP Carnival at the Mall Area, other off-track activities include the Riders Autograph Session and the Public Pit Lane Walk on Friday; the Riders Fan Forum and the Safety Car Ride on Saturday; and the Track Stunt Show and the Grid Walk on Sunday.
