Ulam means to eat fresh raw plants and Jamu means drinks made with natural healing plants. Learn more about our unique local healing herbs and spices by learning how to make a dying heritage Nasi Ulam with a modern twist called Rainbow Healing Rice and 2 modern yet traditional healing drinks. In this Ulam and Jamu* cooking class, Mandy will introduce the basic information of healing ingredients to be used in class and how to make a delicious, healthy, and colourful meal out of them. Guru Mandy Leong is based in Malaysia and has been teaching Natural Plant Healing classes since 2015. She has attended natural plant healing classes in Singapore, Bali, and Jakarta but has recreated the traditional recipes with a modern twist to be able to cater to current society's taste buds without compromising on the health benefits. You will learn how to make 1) Rainbow Healing Rice 2) Green Jamu Beauty Smoothie 3) Digestion Tea The class will be divided in to a few sections Section 1: Introduction - Learn how to identify different herbs and spices and its benefits Section 2: Demos on how to - Cook the colorful rice using natural coloring - Make the unique vegan sauce to go with the rice - Slice the ulam the easier way - Make jamu drinks - Assemble Rainbow Healing Rice. Section 3: Preparation - Each participant will then help to slice and prepare the herbs for the 3 recipes Section 4: Feasting - Eat and drink whatever that has been prepared in class Participants will bring home: a set of Herbs Glossary and Recipes and a pack of Raw Ulam to be mixed into dishes that they will cook at home.
