First City University College (First City UC) campus was abuzz with activities when the Faculty of Design & Built Environment (FDBE) celebrated World Interiors Day on 31 May 2022. The momentous celebration was well participated by students and guests who included Malaysian Institute of Interior Designers (MIID) represented by its Honourary Secretary IDr Sharifah Suzana Simmonds and Council Member Assoc Prof IDr Mohammad Zani Mohammad Zain. Also present to celebrate the occasion was First City UC’s Director, Tan Sri Dato’ (Dr) Teo Chiang Liang, First City UC’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof Dr Saw Sor Heoh and FDBE Dean, Assistant Prof Chua Huwi Huwi. Exhibitions and competitions for students from FDBE, in particular students from the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) Interior Architecture & Design and Diploma in Interior Design programmes, were held to mark the celebration. The theme for this year’s celebration was ‘Pride of the Past, An Incentive for the Future’. In the interior architecture & design competition titled Retrospective 3D Installation, three student group projects were judged as winners by the judges/guests from MIID. The winning projects were titled Verna-Vive, Shadow of the Past and Paper Cranes. The prize-giving ceremony for 9BU Roundabout Design Competition was also held in conjunction with the World Interiors Day celebration at First City UC. The competition was organised by Bandar Utama Development Sdn Bhd in collaboration with First City UC. Judges for this community-inspired project were the Vice-President of Institute of Landscape Architects Malaysia (ILAM) Assoc Prof LAr Dr Nor Atiah Ismail, Mr Loh Tian Hong and Ms Jacqueline Ong from BU9 Condominium Residents Association. ILAM members and public universities including UPM and UiTM were also invited to participate in the competition. Present to grace the prize-giving ceremony were the Director of Bandar Utama Development Sdn Bhd, Tan Sri Dato’ Ir. (Dr) Teo Chiang Kok and Mr Loh Tian Hong who then respectively presented the certificates of participation to all contestants and the grand prize to the winner, Tan Jia Xin. Jia Xin, a Year 2 student in the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) Interior Architecture & Design programme at First City UC, walked away with an RM5,000 cash prize.
