Which one matters more for weight loss? Diet or exercise? Diet has a stronger effect on weight loss than physical activity does. Physical activity, including exercise, has a stronger effect in preventing weight regain after weight loss. For most healthy adults, the recommended guideline for exercise is to participate in at least 150 minutes of moderate physical activity or 75 minutes of vigorous physical activity a week with at least two sessions a week of strength training for all major muscle groups. Aim to do a single set of each strength training exercise, using a weight or resistance level heavy enough to tire your muscles after about 12 to 15 repetitions.
