Patient safety and quality care have always been our utmost priority. 2 years ago, Penang Adventist Hospital (PAH) implemented 214-bedded fully automated Early Warning Scoring (EWS) system throughout the hospital, making PAH the largest installation of this system in the APAC region. This year, we upgraded the system by adding Philips Intellivue X3 transport monitors to all the beds in our ICU and HDU. This monitoring system not only provides real-time measurements of vital signs and parameters, but it is so compact and portable that it allows continuous automated monitoring even when the patient is being moved or transferred within the hospital. We also upgraded our isolation room to allow nurses and caregivers to view and operate the monitor remotely from outside the room. This greatly reduces the frequency of caregivers entering the isolation room and risk of cross transmission, to protect our patients and caregivers at the same time. We believe that implementing the right technology not only helps to increase efficiency and improve patient care quality, but best of all, support us to focus on what matters – lives saving.
