INTRODUCING: SPARTAN MALAYSIA AMBASSADOR 2018 Hey Spartans! Next in line is the 8th of our 13 Spartan Malaysia Ambassadors, Kunaz, who is on his way to tackling all the roadblocks and challenges thrown his way! As he says, "Conquer the obstacles, shut down the burpees!" Get to know more of his Spartan journey below! 1. How did you first find out about the Spartan movement? "I have heard of the race years back as a very tough obstacle course and only real Spartans could take it. My 1st ever Spartan Race was the 1st Spartan Beast Race in Malaysia in 2016. I didn't know what to expect. We had 5 months of training. That time, there was only one dedicated fitness centre in Brunei Darussalam for obstacle races. Credits to my team "The Rookies", and Mairgix Fitness Brunei, for pushing me to my limits & conquering my first ever Spartan Race and making it possible for me to be a beast! Since then, I was addicted to Spartan Race!" 2. What's your motivation in staying the Spartan course? "My motivation is definitely the obstacles! I look forward to trying EVERY SINGLE OBSTACLE in the race. When I race as part of my team, I try to become the best team player ensuring great teamwork! That sense of belonging and responsibility makes you want to push everyone to make it through all the obstacles. That feeling after crossing the finishing line - the obstacles, the failures, the help you give and receive - that is my motivation." 3. What is your biggest challenge running the Spartan obstacles? "The recent race in Semenyih - the Bucket Brigade gave me the biggest mental and physical challenge. The scorching heat felt as if it was trying to bury me with the heavy bucket and melt me altogether. I still have nightmares about this. I am gonna make sure you will be one of the easiest in times to come, dear bucket." 4. What steps are you taking to achieve your Spartan goals thus far? "My Spartan goals, besides being able to conquer each obstacle (No Burpee goal), includes participating in all Spartan Races across Asia. I plan to do it by training harder, finding time to train at least 5 times a week (at times, thrice a day), keeping myself on the loop for any Spartan Race available that doesn't coincide with my offshore shifts, and constantly learning new techniques to conquer the obstacles."
