Did you know that more than 90% of car seats are either installed improperly or misused in a way that could reduce it’s effectiveness in a crash? Here are the most common mistakes that you should avoid! 1️⃣ The harness height is too high. The harness should be even with or just below the shoulder in a rear-facing car seat. 2️⃣ The harness is too loose. It should be snug enough in order to keep baby secure. You can check this by sliding two-fingers under the harness at collarb...one level. If you can twist your fingers, the harness needs to be tightened! 3️⃣ Swaddling baby before buckling. This will cause baby to not be buckled in correctly. You may swaddle baby AFTER they have been buckled in by tucking a nappy tightly all round. 4️⃣ Using the car seat as a sleeping device. It is okay for baby to nap in a car seat but it should not be used for long-term sleeping. Baby should be picked up at least ever 1.5 to 2 hours to ensure sufficient circulation and breathing. 5️⃣ Installing infant carriers in the front seat and/or forward-facing. Infant carriers are designed to be used rear-facing only and you should NEVER install a rear-facing seat in the front seat as the airbag is extremely dangerous when activated. 6️⃣ The handlebar is not upright. The handlebar on infant carriers is not just for carrying, it is also an important safety feature - a rebound bar. It prevents extra momentum on your child and needs to be upright when the vehicle is in motion.
