Upon settling down, he chose to be more family-oriented. “When my wife was expecting, we discussed our responsibilities as parents, as well as the costs of raising our child.” This prompted Chong to take his finances more seriously and start saving. The couple also read books on pregnancy and parenting to prepare for the birth. “As parents, we are strict but practise fairness with our children,” he said. Chong admitted to feeling nervous for his daughter when she received a scholarship to study music abroad. He was worried about his daughter living alone and far from her family. “My kids aren’t aware that my wife and I sometimes have to put on a brave face for them, even when we are scared ourselves.” Nonetheless, Chong remained supportive of her decision and let her pursue her dreams. He often reminds his children to be grateful and refrain from comparing themselves with others.
