This year the theme of British Science week is ‘Connections’ so we had an assembly on Monday where students learnt about the connection between such diverse ideas as the invasion of Starlings in the USA and Shakespeare; and World War Two and Nutella. We have been working with the students to highlight the importance of creativity in the scientific process. In a joint project with the art department we have been running a project with KS3 classes where students have designed a pattern, drew the pattern, and then made the dyes, from food products, and finally painted their own tote bags. We have examined the process of making dyes from a science point of view, and of course been absolutely blown away by the creativity shown by the students in designing and painting their bags. It has been fantastic to see our students see the links between science and art and great for students to get to practice being creative. There has also been a science week music playlist, where students have been able to identify songs, and the scientific idea the song is about, we will announce the winners of this contest next week. We finished the week with the quiz about connections too. We are very pleased to be back in school again for Science week and hope the students have enjoyed the activities we have been able to run. #SJIIM #LasallianEducation #Tropicana Corporation Berhad #creativityscience #learningbydoing #scienceweek2023 #sjiimscience #highschool #internationalschool
