Eunice Tan Sheng Hui from the Jeffrey Cheah School of Medicine and Health Sciences states that ‘growth’ and ‘discovery’ are the two words she would choose to describe her learning journey at Monash University Malaysia. “When I first enrolled in March 2020, I was full of anticipation and excitement,” she shares. “Alas, the pandemic hit. However, the engaging content covering mental health in the community lectured by Dr Rachel Ting and Ms Francis tutoring inculcated and spurred a passion for making meaningful contributions to society. I appreciate the flexibility of Monash Psychological Science to offer elective units that students can tailor to their interests ranging from Business, Arts and Social Sciences, and Digital Media. I greatly benefited in report-writing and developed the ability to deliver a concise elevator pitch presentation by selecting Introduction to Management and Managerial Communication as elective units, which was lectured by Dr Chong Yit Sean, Esther and Ms Noor Aziana. The content covered in these units broadened my horizons to how organisations operate and communicate and the application of management theories to manage employees effectively. Dr Chong fondly hosted an industrial engagement seminar to boost our industry exposure. The constant practice in summarising key points and presenting the content concisely in a minute weekly in Managerial Communication class was challenging. However, I persevered and sharpened my presentation skill to the extent I could present and project my voice confidently and capture the audience’s attention. I am grateful for the various opportunities the Monash Psychological Science degree has provided in terms of equipping me with effective research skills and soft skills such as conflict resolution. The intense workload allocated to us is no doubt challenging.
