The risk of vision loss increases as you age. It is predicted that by 2050, the world’s population for those aged 65 years and over is expected to double. About 73% of people with vision loss are aged 50 years and older. As many causes of vision loss are related to ageing and the ageing of the world’s population has critical ramifications for age-related diseases such as age-related blindness from cataract, uncorrected refractive error, age-related macular degeneration and glaucoma. However, most vision loss can be avoided with access to eye care services. Eye health promotion and early detection can delay or prevent many causes of vision loss. In conjunction with World Sight Day, we would like to encourage everyone to bring the elderly to visit the nearest Focus Point outlets for an eye test by our Registered Optometrist.
