Biosphere Reserves around the world are celebrated for their exceptional biodiversity and distinct social landscapes, as well as for their potential to demonstrate innovative ways of living in harmony with nature. With the designation of the 'UNESCO Man & the Biosphere' Programme, Penang Hill joins a distinguished network of 714 biosphere reserves across 129 countries, which includes 21 transboundary sites. We are honored to be a part of a biodiversity-rich landscape. Our biosphere reserve comprises of the hill forest of Penang Hill, extends all the way to the lowland dipterocarp forest and coastal zone within the Penang National Park, and then a further 1.5 nautical miles into the sea.
