The love for bingsu brings us to Caffè Bene. This Korean dessert cafe has a peculiarly european-sounding name. The brand name is combines the italian word "Cafe" with the suffix "bene' meaning good, hence it is literally translated as "Good Cafe". Caffè Bene incorporates the free spirit of European cafe and lifestyle with Korea's unique cafe culture. Aside from the popular bingsu, the cafe also serves a variety of handcrafted Korean coffee, Belgian waffles and Italian gelato made using traditional recipes.

Recently, Caffè Bene launched a new range of Ultra Violet Purple Sweet Potato desserts, so of course we had to go check it out. We visited the Caffè Bene outlet in Sunway Pyramid, which by the way, is the first Caffè Bene outlet to open in Malaysia in 2014. There are currently 9 outlets in Malaysia, which shows that the craving for Korean desserts among Malaysians is real.

So, there are four New Ultra Violet desserts at Caffè Bene: Purple Sweet Potato Bingsu (RM29.90), Purple Sweet Potato (Hot/Iced) Latte (RM14.90), Purple Sweet Potato Cream Waffle (RM18.90) and Purple Sweet Potato Frappeno (RM16.90)

We tried all the new Sweet Potato offerings from Caffè Bene except for the Purple Sweet Potato Frappeno, because we only had so much room in our tummies. However, all four new concoctions look dazzling to us, with their attractively vivid purple hues.

First up to our table was the Purple Sweet Potato Bingsu. Just the sight of the huge bowl of bingsu, layered with delicious colourful toppings, made our mouths tingle with excitement already.

The Purple Sweet Potato Bingsu from Caffe Bene is definitely a must try! This beautiful violet dessert has crunchy granola with multigrain clusters, raisins and pecan flakes with a big scoop of special edition purple sweet potato gelato on the top. Underneath you’ll find smooth-shaven ice layered with whipped cream, and a generous scoop of what tasted like purple sweet potato paste. The natural flavour of sweet potato here is tasty, delightfully soothing and not artificially sweet. This is one lovely dessert to share with someone special or your BFF.

Next came the Purple Sweet Potato Cream Waffle and the Purple Sweet Potato Hot Latte.

As with the bingsu, the waffle also comes with whipped cream, sprinkled with crunchy multigrain flakes and a huge dollop of purple sweet potato gelato on top. The waffle goes perfectly well with a hot cup of latte. Why? For one thing, because the latte is creamy rich and also tastes of delectable purple sweet potato. Also, it's to avoid a brain freeze, especially when you've shoved a lot of icy cold desserts down your throat!
