Know this - Podgy Kurau used to be known as Podgy and The Banker, that was located at Sri Hartamas. It was definitely an Instagrammable cafe that was loved by many. However, they’ve closed down in the middle of last year, and thank goodness they’ve reopened the cafe in the early December of last year at Lorong Kurau, Bangsar.
The cafe appears to be very cozy, just right for a place to chill - blending in modern designs with the use of monochrome tiles, gold trimmings, wooden furnishing and potted plants, creating a lively and comfy, yet minimalistic look.
Their menu covers breakfast, sandwiches, pasta and dessert selections. So, we’ve ordered one of each -- yes, including dessert. What’s a meal without a rich dessert at the very end, right?
First of, we had Avocado Toast (RM19) from the breakfast selection. It is basically smashed avocado blended with spices, topped with two perfectly poached eggs on toast, and sprinkled with chili flakes and lime juice. The combination of the whole dish is simply unique. The flavours revolved around a palatable wheel of creamy and tangy in the toast. The portion may look small, but it can definitely fill you up! (Psst.. You can also add in smoked salmon for an additional RM7 if you’d like!)
We tried the Steak Sandwich (RM25) that consisted of very well marinated steak, caramelised onion, capsicum, cheddar cheese, and garlic aioli with a side of salad. For those who’s not used to having a savoury meal with a touch of sweetness, which came from the caramelised onion - well, you may find the taste a tad bit sweet. Other than that, the meat was definitely tender and the overall taste was fairly good with fresh bread holding everything together.
As for the last savoury dish, we had a simple yet humble dish, Pesto Chicken Spaghetti (RM25). It comes with a generous mix of chicken slices, cherry tomato, baby spinach and grated parmesan cheese. Let’s just say, the meal was hearty, healthy and filled with delicious flavours!
Now, for desserts, we had their Chocolate Brownie (RM8) drizzled with salted caramel sauce to satisfy our cravings! A perfectly baked brownie, soft on the inside and crunchy on top - it was moist, chocolatey, rich, and heavenly. At first, we were quite disappointed with the fact that it wasn’t served with the usual vanilla ice-cream, but then, it was just as good with the salted caramel.
Good food, dessert and coffee - you can get it all at Podgy Kurau. Try it and you’ll know what we mean. Besides, you can make your Instagram feed on point now! :D
