The first thing that surprised people about the DJI Osmo Mobile 2 is the price. Coming in at roughly RM600, its more than half the price of its predecessor, the DJI Osmo Mobile and comes packed in a lightweight state-of-the-art 3-axis stabilisation gimbal design with newer intelligent functions and a longer-lasting battery. Cheaper? check! Better? check! So what’s not to love!
Almost every aspect of the DJI Osmo Mobile was redesigned over for the Osmo Mobile 2. Coming in at just 485g (without your mobile device of course), it is made from a lighter composite nylon construction for a more comfortable use over long periods of time. The clamp that holds your device can now be pivoted between portrait (for you instagrammers out there) and landscape for two different video orientations.
Toggling the power button lets you switch between follow and locked modes where else a triple press will swap your front-facing camera with your back camera, and vice versa. The joypad on the grip allows you to adjust the attached device's angle manually. There is also a tripod thread at the bottom of the grip if you want to steady the Osmo Mobile 2 for doing timelapses.
Intelligent professional functions like the AI-driven Activetrack, multiple shooting modes (Beautify, Hyperlapse, Light Trail, Long Exposure, Motionlapse, Panorama, Slow-mo, Timelapse) and Cinematic Zoom Control is all there for one-handed ease of use.
Battery life is also greatly extended with roughly up to 15 hours of power time that you can also use to keep your smartphone charged via an in-built USB port.
Slated to be launched in Malaysia around March 2018, the DJI Osmo Mobile 2 is a pretty slick tool, offering more and also costing less than its predecessor. If you are in the market for a smartphone gimbal, we dare say that the DJI Osmo Mobile 2 won’t disappoint you at all.
