The DJI Spark features intelligent flying and shooting modes that allows users to control the drone up to 3 meters away without a remote controller or mobile device. With FaceAware, the Spark quick launches from your hand by recognizing your face, taking off and hovering in place within seconds of activation. You can take amazing 12-megapixel cinematic aerial photos and 1080p videos just by using the different types of DJI Spark Control Modes: QuickShot, TapFly, ActiveTrack and Gesture.
If you want distance, you can pair the Spark with your mobile device via the DJI GO 4 app to increase the flying range up to 90 metres. Meanwhile, the analogue remote lets you have extended control of the drone up to 2 kilometres away, though the remote for the Spark doesn't feature a built-in screen. Unfortunately, the flight time for the Spark is limited to only 16 minutes, but DJI designed the Spark’s batteries to be hot swappable so get a few battery packs on standby if you want to prolong your shooting window.
The DJI Spark has a 12MP 1/2.3 inch CMOS sensor camera with f/2.6 wide-angle lens and a 25mm equivalent focal length, Ultrasmooth 2-axis Mechanical Gimbal Stabilization and a GPS sensor, as well as a 3D depth-sensing up to 5 metres and vision-position systems that can detect objects and environments for up to 29 metres. The next-generation flight controller has been updated to provide a safer, more reliable flight experience. The aircraft is able to automatically return to its home point when transmission signal is lost or battery level is low. Apart from being able to hover indoors at low altitudes, the aircraft is also able to sense and avoid obstacles on its route, thus enhancing flight safety.
The DJI GO 4 app also features automatic editing templates and an array of filters which you can use to quickly edit your photos and videos before sharing them straight to social media.
The Spark comes in five colours: Alpine White, Sunrise Yellow, Lava Red, Sky Blue and Metal Green. All in all, the Spark has good potential for a photo/video drone but the price might be a bit steep for many. Starting at RM2288 for the basic package of the drone, it comes with a single intelligent flight battery, a charger and three pairs of propellers. If you have a little bit more to spend, the “Spark Fly More Combo” goes for RM3188 which includes four propeller guards, an additional intelligent flight battery, analogue remote controller, a battery charging hub, a shoulder bag and four extra quick-release folding propellers on top of the basic package.
