On that sugary topic, we’d like to introduce to you one of the latest additions to the dessert scene in Mid Valley Megamall, KL - Hoshino Coffee Malaysia.
Hoshino Coffee was founded in Japan back in year 2011 and is culminated by the unique food menu of Nippon Restaurant system who owns more than 30 dining brands and the distinctive quality coffee brought by Doutor Coffee, a retail company with more than 50 years history of coffee roasting who runs the largest coffee chain in Japan. Since Hoshino Coffee is warmly welcomed by the people in Japan with its success of opening more than 180 outlets in Japan, Hoshino decided to venture out to the world. The venture has gone to Singapore, South Korea, China, and NOW in Malaysia.
Upon arriving at the shop, we were greeted by, fortunately, not a very long queue and we could overhear people in the queue discussing what they were going to order, just like us. While waiting for our turn, we went to check out their food replicas at the food display area to get an idea of their offerings. The food replicas were awe-inspiring as they were made very exquisitely and looked exactly like real food. By only looking at the replicas before entering the shop, we’ve decided what to have for our lunch.
The waiter called us into the waiting area of the shop and few minutes later the receptionist brought us to our table upstairs.
When the waiter brought us upstairs, we were astonished and wowing at the interior design and finishings.
We were taken aback by the magnificent sight completed with clean elegant wooden ceiling, low hanging chandeliers that emitted beautiful lights through small and large pieces of prismatic crystals, and grand-looking leather sofas. With a combination of the comfortable setting at the seating area, good cozy lighting, and the relaxing aroma of roasted coffee beans that filled the whole room, we are sure you wouldn’t want to leave the place too soon.
We ordered the signature Hoshino Blend Coffee and the must-try hot fruit tea; former for the caffeine lover and latter for the non coffee drinker. The aroma of the coffee was fragrant, the taste was smooth with light amount of bitterness. For people who are not heavy coffee drinkers like us, this cup would be perfect. The hot fruit tea is made of mixing tea and generous slices of fruits such lemon, apple, and berries; giving it a sweet and slightly tangy taste. If you like something refreshing and fruity, try this out!
As for main course, we tried their Pot Curry Rice and Salmon Wasabi Pasta. The Pot Curry Rice was topped with baked curry, cheese, and a perfectly poached egg, and accompanied with cheese-filled sausages and tender chicken cubes. It was served together with a dipping sauce made of an assortment of spices and garlic. Every spoon of this curry rice was well-coated with the mixture of creamy and thick curry sauce and cheese. The Salmon Wasabi Pasta was topped with tasty salmon slices and dried shredded wasabi flavoured seaweed and coated with carbonara sauce. The carbonara sauce was creamy with a slight hint of wasabi. However, the only minor flaw of this plate was the lack of salmon slices to go with the large amount of pasta.
Here comes the main and long-awaited part - Hoshino’s desserts! The sizable portions of the main courses filled our stomachs quite a bit, but you know, there’s always room for desserts! So, we had Strawberry French Toast and Chocolate Custard Souffle. We made the right decision of ordering the Chocolate Custard Souffle as it tasted really delicious. The top part of the souffle was sieved with icing sugar and chocolate powder. We poured the chocolate sauce on top of the souffle and left some for the custard at the bottom. The custard under it was smooth and creamy and it melted perfectly in the mouth. The Strawberry French Toast came in two thick slices of toasts (cooked with butter and egg) topped with whipped cream and strawberry slices. The strawberry used was a little soury but it went really well with the sweet taste of the cream. Both desserts are big in portion and very suitable for sharing.
All in all, it was a good dining experience at Hoshino Coffee Malaysia from the superb environment and ambience of the shop to the friendly and helpful servers, followed by the appearance, taste, price, and portion of the food. So, calling all dessert lovers! Time for some new desserts?
