If you love all things cheese, and have an obsession towards Korean fried chicken, K Fry is something you must not miss. K Fry is an urban korean cuisine restaurant located at the east wing of IOI City Mall at Putrajaya, Kuala Lumpur. This restaurant landed in Malaysia with its first branch at Johor Bahru and quickly became the new favourite among Korean food lovers in Malaysia.
Due to overwhelming good reviews from the customers on K Fry’s Facebook page, we decided to make a reservation in order to avoid lunch time queue. Surprisingly, the reservation made through K Fry’s Facebook page was smooth and fast.
Upon our arrival, there was already a queue at the entrance. The front desk was well-informed about our reservation and we were then being seated at a spacious corner of the outdoor seating area. The atmosphere of the restaurant had an apt korean urban vibe - music playing on the TV was up to date, and the interior design and table setting were very similar to the newest urban restaurants in Seoul.
Unfortunately, we made a wrong move of not ordering our food during our reservation. The signature dish, Cheesy Fried Chicken Bumbuk, was sold out and we had to wait for almost an hour for the second batch! The staff was very kind to offer us some suggestions when we were having trouble ordering from their extensive menu. One thing we must highlight here is that K Fry’s staff deserve a praise for their polite and prompt response to customer requests. The smile on their faces definitely added value to the overall vibrant vibe in K Fry.
We ordered Honey Mustard Cheesy Fried Chicken bumbuk, Mango Bingsoo, Seafood Korean K’Spicy Noodle, and Kimgaru Fries. The portion of this whole meal was really big and is more than enough for three persons.
The Seafood Korean K’Spicy Noodle was served hot in a small nickel pot filled with Korean spicy soup and topped with some chopped onions and pepper as well as seafood such as mussels and prawns. The moment when it was served on the table, we could already smell the strong spicy scent of the soup. However to our surprise, it wasn’t very spicy, with just right amount of sweet and salty. Noodles were cooked just right - bouncy and chewy!
What’s better than an icy drink to sooth your tongue after a spicy dish?
Mango Bingsoo was one of the highlights of this meal. It was really a HUGE bowl overflowing with sweet fresh mango and vanilla ice cream. The ice made with milk was shaved extremely fine that it melted right away in our mouths. Layers of blended mango spreaded evenly after each layer of shaved ice, complemented the shaved milk ice perfectly. Do not hesitate to order this dessert and try it for yourself to know why their Bingsoo is worth the price. (You’ll be impressed!)
Moving on, the Kimgaru Fries was alright. Nothing fancy for this one but, again, the portion is big so if you want some light bites to stimulate your appetite before your main course, this is the one to go for.
Finally, the arrival of Honey Mustard Cheesy Fried Chicken Bumbuk we have waited for sooo long. This dish was welcomed by a ‘WOW!’ from us as it looked super enticing. This dish came in an iron plate over a gas stove filled with pieces of freshly fried chicken chunks and a generous amount of grated mozzarella cheese, topped with fries sprinkled with cheese powder. The staff started off the cooking by separating the chicken, cheese, and fries. She then melted the mozzarella cheese with their homemade cheese sauce and mixed both evenly. When the cheese was all melted evenly, she coated the chicken chunks with the melted cheese using a tong and a fork. We were already salivating watching her cook.
The cheese was very chewy and thick we could feel our teeth going through the thick layers of cheese before reaching the crunchy skin of the chicken. However, it’s advisable to coat half of the chicken chunks with cheese first in order to keep the remaining cheese heated and melted in the iron plate. The chicken was all fried to perfection without being too oily. Super crunchy skin, fresh juicy meat, combined with hot soft pillowy tasty cheese, what more could we ask for!
All in all this meal was very worth the price and we even packed our leftovers because the portions were huge. We loved it that the staff checked in with us from time to time, asked for feedback, and also suggested other dishes for our next visit. Unless you don’t like good Korean food, there’s really no reason not to pay this restaurant a visit soon!
