Ring in a Lucky Chinese New Year with Lucky Peaches
by Ee Vonne

Lucky Peaches Eating Hall and Bar is a newly opened restaurant located in Plaza Arkadia Desa Parkcity that embraces vibrant al-fresco dining style and contemporary comfort food with a quirky twist of asian. By only looking at pictures, you would be able to feel the casual and easy ambience of Lucky Peaches that allows you to spend a very good time having flowing conversations with family and friends.

It opens at 4 o’clock on Tuesdays, so we departed around that hour and had our dinner earlier to beat the peak-hour jam.

Instead of heavy main courses, we’ve ordered a few lighter dishes and sharing bites in order for us to try out more varieties of food.

Ready to explore the “Lucky Peaches” we had? Here we go!

Braised Five Spice Pulled Jackfruit, Buttermilk Fried Chicken, and Crispy Tempura Softshell Crab

This Wow Bao Basket is indeed one that deserves a ‘wow’. From the outlook itself, it has already gotten us drooling. We ordered three different types of Wow Bao as it requires a minimum order of three baos per Wow Bao Basket. The Buttermilk Fried Chicken was topped with pickled achor salad, crushed roasted peanut, and roasted white sesame seeds. The sauce of this one tasted savory and a little sweet that it stimulated out appetite right after our first bite. In spite of that, we still wished the buttermilk chicken could taste slightly more buttery and milky. The Pulled Jackfruit Bao topped with crushed roasted peanuts tasted a little weird to us because the jackfruit filling did not taste like Jackfruit at all but tasted more like preserved mustard greens (Mui Choy) wrapped in a bao instead. The five spice sauce of the jackfruit was very juicy, it squeezed out from the shredded jackfruit as we chewed. The Crispy Tempura Soft-shell Crab Bao came in a half mini crab enfolded within the white chinese bao. The crab was very fresh and fleshy and the taste of this one had been enhanced even more with the zest of the thai cilantro mango salad. Although we prefer this among the three, we suggest you to try out all of them just in case you have a different preference.

The Pok Pok Wings look very irresistible, right? We thought so too! The skin was deeply fried until very crispy with a thin layer of crunch coating. Although it looks crunchy and stiff from the outside, the flesh inside was actually tender. By glazing and eating a whole wing with the sweet spicy dipping sauce, it made us craved for more.

The Spicy Creamy Korean Miso Vongole was served with two slices of sourdough and filled with generous amount of clams and thick miso broth. Unfortunately, the taste of it wasn’t as fresh as we expected.

If you’re a root beer lover, you’re in luck because Lucky Peaches is serving one of the best root beers from Australia - the Bundaberg Root Beer. Besides, they also serve other Bundaberg drinks such as Ginger Beer and Lemonade. We’ve also tried Blue Pea tea with Lemon and Honey. If you’re looking for something light and calming, this would be the one you should go for.

Not forgetting this one that deserves a BIG shout-out! Can you guess the name of this cake from the pictures? It’s called Black-Out. If you love desserts that are not too sweet, this is something worth indulging in because it is made of dark chocolate with just the right amount of sweetness. And most importantly, it tasted really great and addictive from the outer crumbly layer to the moist chocolate-y layers of cake from within.

Everything was decent on the whole. Nothing too fancy but it was enough to keep us staying for few hours because of the cozy environment. We’d definitely visit Lucky Peaches again to try out other interesting food listed on the menu as well as their mouth-watering pastries from Huckleberry Food & Fare.
