Sony Xperia XA1 Ultra: The Photography Powerhouse

If you are a camera-focused user, the Xperia XA1 could just be the smartphone that you have been waiting for

DESIGN & SPECS: BEST IN-CLASS CAMERA IN AN ELEGANT, BORDERLESS DESIGN

Packing an almost similar hardware setup as the XA1, the XA1 Ultra comes in a larger form factor with some improvements. Styled into a smooth, almost bezel-less rounded form that leaves the frame barely visible, the Xperia XA1 Ultra is definitely larger than the XA1 and it sits somewhat comfortably in the palm of your hand. The volume rocker, power button and dedicated camera button are all placed on the right edge of the smartphone. Instead of the glass and metal that you can find on the more expensive Xperia models, the XA1 is unfortunately mostly plastic with some metal panels along the sides.

The XA1 Ultra comes with an impressively large 6” full HD 1080p almost edge-to-edge display that can provide you with an immersive viewing experience right in the palm of your hand. Surprisingly, it is noted by many that the display panel on the XA1 Ultra outclasses Sony’s own flagship models in term of details, brightness and colour reproduction.

Gifted with two high performance cameras, taking photos is where this beast shines; a 16-megapixel wide angle front-facing camera with Optical Image Stabilisation and flash, and in the rear a 23-megapixel 1/2.3-inch sensor with a f/2.0 aperture and Hybrid Phase-Detection Autofocus.

For a mid-range smartphone, the Xperia XA1 Ultra is almost perfect in terms of camera quality but it does suffer when taking photos in low-light conditions.

Xperia XA1 Ultra features an Octa-core processor, the MediaTek Helio P20 CPU with 4GB RAM, making it a performer that easily meets all your needs. The XA1 Ultra also comes with 32GB internal storage, great for those trigger happy photo snappers. If that’s not enough for you, there’s a microSDXC card slot with support up to 256GB.

At first glance the 2700mAh battery seems woefully inadequate to power the device but the device is an absolute champion when it comes to battery life. This can be attributed to a combination of the relatively low-power Helio P20 chipset, Sony’s proprietary STAMINA Mode and Qnovo Adaptive Charging.

If you are looking for a reasonably powerful phone with a generous screen size and a good camera, the XA1 Ultra is one of the best choices out there for you right now.
