The star of 2017 facelifted Honda Jazz is definitely the Jazz Hybrid with its Sport Hybrid i-DCD. This new generation Jazz Hybrid uses a full-hybrid system that replaces the previous generation’s mild-hybrid Integrated Motor Assist setup. Honda refers to this new full-hybrid system as the Sport Hybrid “i-DCD”, which is short for “Intelligent Dual Clutch Drive”
The i-DCD system is a marriage of the unique 1.5 L Atkinson cycle DOHC i-VTEC engine that is mated to a seven-speed dry dual-clutch automatic transmission with integrated high-output electric motor and an IPU (Intelligent Power Unit) with internal lithium-ion battery, delivering 110 PS/6,000rpm and 134 Nm of torque at 5,000 rpm. Combined with a 30 PS/160 Nm motor, the system produces a combined 137 PS and 170 Nm of torque.
The hybrid system motor in the 2017 Jazz Hybrid now delivers a 120% power increase: 22kW of power compared to the outgoing model’s 10kW. This new hybrid is even more fuel efficient despite a larger capacity engine, boasting a rated fuel consumption of only 4.0 litres per 100 kilometres.
Unlike Integrated Motor Assist setup cars of the previous hybrid generation, the 2017 Jazz Hybrid fires up in EV mode without the engine and the air conditioning continues to run when the car is idle with the assistance of the electric compressor that is fed by the Li-ion battery.
When it comes to external features, the Jazz Hybrid shares some similarities with its petrol siblings but the changes are minimal, with upgraded Halogen headlights, LED Daylight Running Lights, LED Rear Combi lights, Tailgate Spoiler with Integrated Third Brake Light, Power Adjustable Door Mirrors and 15” alloy rims as standards.
Internally the changes are also minimal with the Jazz Hybrid kitted out with Smart Entry with Push Start Button, ECON Button, Bold LCD Meter Cluster, Touch Panel Auto Air Conditioning, Steering Wheel Audio Control, Hands-Free Telephone Steering Switch Control, Cruise Control and One Touch Turn Signal. From the In-Car Entertainment angle, the Jazz Hybrid has a 6.8” Display Audio Panel with 1 HDMI Port, 1 USB Port and 4 speakers.
On the safety and styling side, Honda has pretty much loaded the Jazz Hybrid with a slew of features: Dual Front SRS Airbags, Side Airbags, Rear Seatbelt 3-Point ELR (X3), Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BA), Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA), Hill Start Assist (HSA), Emergency Stop Signal (ESS), Reverse Sensor, Multi-Angle Reverse Camera and a Security Alarm with Immobiliser
The Honda Jazz Hybrid is available in three colours - Lunar Silver Metallic, Modern Steel Metallic and a new colour to the Jazz: White Orchid Pearl, which will be exclusive to the Hybrid for a RM300 premium.
